Start-up poised to nail $3M contract
Date: January 19, 2001

CARY Less than six months after its inception, EximSoft International, which was started by former Nortel and Fujitsu executives, has bagged a big prize.

EximSoft is expected to announce next week that it will support and test software developed by Entrust Technologies a deal that eventually could be worth well over $3 million for the small start-up.

Entrust, owned 22 percent by Nortel, develops Internet security software. It will use EximSoft's expertise to offer its products across different operating platforms.

"We believe EximSoft will reduce our costs and make our distribution process more efficient," says Hans Downer, senior vice president of global professional services for Entrust.

Hans Downer of Entrust and Amalendu Chatterjee of EximSoft are expected to announce a multi-million dollar deal next week

Other contracts with EximSoft may include testing of the software and localization of Entrust's products across the world. Essentially, Inter-net users around the world will be able to surf and work online using their native language rather than English.

For Amalendu Chatterjee, the soft-spoken co-founder of EximSoft who left Fujitsu Switching in 1998 after 14 years, the deal offers much more than the potential $3 million payout.

"Having Entrust as a partner opens up the door for us to go after larger companies," Chatterjee says. "Because of our (software) localization ability, we believe we have the tool to deliver the power of the Internet to remote corners of the world."

The contract size will result in the five-worker EximSoft hiring as many as 20 software specialists over the next several months. The 14-person Entrust office is expected to grow to about 30 during the same time, Downer estimates.

Entrust, which calls Dallas its corporate headquarters and Ottawa its development hub, employs more than 1,100 worldwide with revenue topping $140 million.
